Test K: Doors Do Not Lock Or Unlock With Keyless Entry Pad

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: After making any repairs, retest system for proper operation.
  1. Lock and unlock all doors using driver's side door switch. If all doors operate properly, go to next step. If all doors do not operate properly, diagnose by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX .
  2. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Using NGS tester, retrieve continuous DTCs. Clear DTCs. Perform Central Security Module self-test. If DTC B1526 is retrieved, go to next step. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to step  5.
  3. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Disconnect CSM harness connector C274a. CSM is located behind instrument panel, left of steering column. Measure resistance between ground and instrument panel harness connector C274a terminals No. 5 (Light Blue/Yellow wire), No. 6 (Light Green/Red wire), No. 7 (Yellow wire), No. 8 (Red wire) and No. 19 (Yellow/Black wire). If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less at any terminal, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to step  9.
  4. Remove driver's side door trim panel and disconnect 8-pin keyless entry keypad harness connector C500. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C274a terminals No. 5 (Light Blue/Yellow wire), No. 6 (Light Green/Red wire), No. 7 (Yellow wire), No. 8 (Red wire) and No. 19 (Yellow/Black wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace keyless entry keypad. See KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire between keyless entry keypad and CSM.
  5. Using NGS tester, compare manufacturer's stored code in CSM to keyless entry keypad code. Manufacturers code is located on CSM. If manufacturer's code is the same as code on CSM, go to next step. If manufacturer's code is not the same as code on CSM, check operation of code from CSM. If problem still exists, go to step  2. If problem does not exist, perform CSM self-test.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect CSM harness connector C274a. CSM is located behind instrument panel, left of steering column. Measure resistance between ground and CSM harness connector C274a terminals as specified, while pressing appropriate keyless entry keypad button. See Figure. See CENTRAL SECURITY MODULE TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  table. If all resistances are more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If all resistances are 5 ohms or less, go to step  9. If resistance is more than 5 ohms in one wire, repair open in appropriate wire between CSM and keyless entry keypad. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
    CENTRAL SECURITY MODULE TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION

CSM Harness Connector C274a Terminal No. Wire Color Press Keypad Button
    5 Light Blue/Yellow 1/2
    6 Light Green/Red 3/4
    7 Yellow 7/8
    8 Red 9/0
    19 Yellow/Black 5/6
  7. Remove driver's side door trim panel and disconnect 8-pin keyless entry keypad harness connector C500. Measure resistance in Brown wire between keyless entry keypad harness connector C500 terminal No. 8 and CSM harness connector C274a terminal No. 15. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown wire between keyless entry keypad and CSM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  8. Measure resistance between CSM harness connector C274a and keyless entry keypad harness connector C500 as specified. See KEYPAD CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. See Figure and Fig 1 . If all resistances are 5 ohms or less, replace keyless entry keypad. See KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If any resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire between CSM harness connector C274a and keyless entry keypad. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
    KEYPAD CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION

Keypad Terminal No. Wire Color CSM Terminal No.
    1 Red 8
    3 Light Blue/Yellow 5
    4 Light Green/Red 6
    5 Yellow/Black 19
    6 Yellow 7
  9. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Disconnect all CSM harness connectors. Check for backed out or corroded terminals. Repair terminals as necessary. Connect all CSM harness connectors. Check operation of power door lock system. If problem still exists, replace CSM. See CENTRAL SECURITY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If problem does not exist, clear all DTCs and perform CSM self-test.
