Diagnostic Monitor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Ford Pickup, 1995 Ford F-Super Duty, 1995 Ford Cab & Chassis, and 1995 Ford Bronco. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Diagnostic monitor is located on left side of steering column underneath instrument panel. Diagnostic monitor contains a microcomputer which monitors electrical system components and connections. Diagnostic monitor performs a system self-check every time ignition switch is turned to RUN position. Monitor also energizes air bag system readiness indicator light (AIR BAG warning light) during initial system self-check and whenever a fault is detected. Faults are translated and displayed through AIR BAG warning light.

If a system fault exists and AIR BAG warning light malfunctions, an audible tone will be heard, indicating need for service. See TONE GENERATOR  . Diagnostic monitor can also disarm air bag system if certain faults occur.
