Diagnostic Aids
- 1) Perform KOEO Output State Self-Test: Check Transmission Electrical Operation
DTC 0741, 0750, 0755, 1746, 1747, 1748 Or 1754 indicates electrical malfunction. Possible causes for this DTC are:- Faulty solenoid assembly.
- VPWR circuit open or shorted to ground.
- Solenoid circuit open, or shorted to VPWR or GND.
- Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM 104-pin connector, and inspect for damaged pins, corrosion and loose wires. Repair as necessary. Install Breakout Box (014-00950). Connect PCM to breakout box. Turn ignition on. Reconnect PCM connector. Using New Generation Star (NGS) scan tool, perform KOEO OUTPUT STATE SELF-TEST under QUICK TEST. Using DVOM measure voltage between ground and appropriate solenoid signal test pin at breakout box. See TRANSMISSION & PCM SOLENOID SIGNAL TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION table. Cycle solenoid output on and off by depressing and releasing throttle. If voltage output changes by 0.5 volt or more, diagnose solenoids. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. If voltage output does not change by 0.5 volt or more, go to next step.
- 2) Perform KOEO Output State Self-Test: Check Solenoid Electrical Operation
DTC 1746 indicates EPC circuit open. DTC 1747 indicates EPC circuit shorted. DTC 1748 indicates EPC malfunction. Turn ignition off. Disconnect transmission wiring harness connector. Inspect terminals and repair if damaged. Reconnect connector. Disconnect PCM 104-pin connector, and inspect for damaged pins, corrosion and loose wires. Repair as necessary. Install Breakout Box (014-00950). Connect PCM to breakout box. Measure voltage between ground and test pin No. 81 at breakout box. If voltage is 8.5-9.5 volts, diagnose solenoids. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. If voltage is not 8.5-9.5 volts, go to next step. - 3) Check Solenoid & VPWR Circuit Continuity
Turn ignition off. Disconnect transmission wiring harness connector. Disconnect PCM power relay. Relay is located in power distribution box in engine compartment. Measure resistance of Red wire between terminals No. 1 and 12 at transmission wiring harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, locate and repair open circuit in Red wire (circuit No. 361). Clear DTCs, and repeat QUICK TEST . - 4) Check Solenoid Signal & VPWR Circuit Continuity
Disconnect PCM 104-pin connector, and inspect for damaged pins, corrosion and loose wires. Repair as necessary. Install Breakout Box (014-00950), leaving PCM disconnected. Measure resistance between suspect solenoid signal wire at transmission harness connector and same suspect test pin at breakout box. See TRANSMISSION & PCM SOLENOID SIGNAL TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION table. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, locate and repair open circuit. Clear DTCs, and repeat QUICK TEST . - 5) Check Solenoid Circuit For Short To Power Or Ground
Leave ignition off and PCM disconnected. Leave transmission wiring harness connector disconnected. Measure resistance between test pins No. 71 or 97 and suspect solenoid test pin at breakout box. See TRANSMISSION & PCM SOLENOID SIGNAL TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION table. Also, measure resistance between suspect solenoid test pin and test pins No. 25, 51, 77, 91 and 103 at breakout box. If any reading is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short circuit and repeat QUICK TEST . If all readings are 10 k/ohms or more, go to next step. - 6) Check Suspect Solenoid
Reconnect transmission connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and suspect solenoid test pin at breakout box. If battery voltage is present, replace PCM. Clear DTCs, and repeat QUICK TEST . If battery voltage is not present, service solenoid. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
