Reassembly & Installation

  1. Lubricate all "O" rings and "O" ring mating surfaces with clean engine oil. Install large "O" ring and then small "O" ring onto oil cooler tube (bundle). Push assembly together, ensuring locating clips align in slots.
  2. To install, position oil cooler assembly on cylinder block with NEW gaskets and tighten rear bolts until snug. On Pickup, lower engine. Install engine mount bolt and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. On all models, lower vehicle. Install front header gasket and bolts. Tighten to specification. Raise and support vehicle. Tighten rear header bolts to specification. Apply thin coat of oil to oil filter gasket surface and install filter. Lower vehicle. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
    CAUTION: Before starting engine, prime entire engine lubricating system to fill oil cooler, oil filter and cylinder block galleries to prevent piston and bearing scuffing.
  4. Fill or top off all fluids. Fill and bleed air from cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING . Start engine and check for oil and coolant leaks.
