Timing Gears: Removal

- Drain cooling system and crankcase. Remove timing gear cover. See TIMING GEAR COVER . Check camshaft end play. If end play is not within specification, replace camshaft thrust plate. See CAMSHAFT table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
- Rotate engine (in direction of normal rotation) until camshaft and crankshaft gear timing marks are aligned. See Figure. Using Camshaft Gear Puller (T82T-6256-A), remove camshaft gear. Using Crankshaft Damper Remover (T58P-6316-D), remove crankshaft gear. Remove Woodruff keys from camshaft and crankshaft.
