Pinpoint Test Hf - Brake Warning Never/Always On

  1. Ensure brake fluid is at proper level. Turn ignition on. Check EIC for warning. If warning never comes on, go to step 5). If warning is always on, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Set transmission selector lever to Park position. Release parking brake. Unplug connector at brake fluid level switch. Turn ignition on. If brake warning is on, go to next step. If brake warning is not on, replace brake master cylinder reservoir.
  3. Unplug connector from parking brake switch. If brake warning is not on, replace parking brake switch. If warning remains on, and vehicle is not equipped with daytime running lights, go to next step. If warning remains on, and vehicle is equipped with daytime running lights, go to step 5).
  4. Unplug connector C256 from EIC. See Figure . If warning remains on, replace EIC. If warning goes out, repair short to ground in Purple/White and/or Tan/Light Green wire from brake fluid level switch to EIC and Daytime Running Lights Module (DRL).
  5. Unplug connector from DRM. DRL is located at front center of vehicle, on front of upper radiator support. If brake warning remains on, go to next step. If brake warning is off, go to step 7).
  6. Unplug connector C256 from EIC. If warning remains on, replace EIC. If warning goes out, repair short to ground in Purple/White wire between pin No. 7 of connector C256 and DRL and brake fluid level switch.
  7. Inspect Tan/Light Green wire for continuity between DRM and parking brake switch. If continuity exists, replace DRL. Repair appropriate wire as necessary.
  8. Perform step 4) of PINPOINT TEST HA  . If all voltages are as specified, go to next step. Repair appropriate wire if voltages are not as specified.
  9. Turn ignition off. Unplug EIC connector C256. Using jumper wire, connect EIC terminal No. 7 (Purple/White or Tan/Light Green wire on mating connector C256) to ground. Turn ignition on. If warning is on, go to next step. If warning is not on, replace EIC.
  10. Set parking brake. Turn ignition on. If warning light is not on, go to next step. If warning light is on, go to step 12).
  11. Unplug connector from parking brake switch. Connect jumper wire between Tan/Light Green wire at harness connector and ground. If warning is on, replace parking brake switch. If warning is not on, repair Tan/Light Green wire between parking brake switch and DRM, or Purple/White wire between brake fluid level switch and DRM. If wires are okay, replace DRM.
  12. Turn ignition off. Unplug brake fluid level switch. Connect jumper wire between harness connector terminals other than that for Black wire. Turn ignition on. If warning is not on, go to next step. If brake warning is on, replace master cylinder reservoir.
  13. Turn ignition off. Unplug connectors from EIC. Inspect Purple/White wire for continuity between ignition switch and brake fluid level switch, and between brake fluid level switch and EIC connector C256. Repair wire as necessary. If wire is okay, replace ignition switch.
