Intake Manifold: Removal

  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove air cleaner assembly.
  2. Disconnect necessary coolant hoses, vacuum lines and control cables from manifold and throttle body. Disconnect air intake duct. Remove engine lifting bracket mounting bolt from throttle body and cylinder block.
  3. Remove coolant line and wiring brackets from throttle body and upper intake manifold. Remove PCV hose from upper intake manifold.
  4. Remove upper intake manifold retaining bolts/nuts. Remove upper intake manifold and gasket. See Figure. Disconnect EGR pipe. Disconnect fuel lines from fuel rail. Disconnect fuel injector electrical connections and coolant temperature switch (A/T only).
  5. Disconnect fuel line and wiring brackets from lower intake manifold. Remove fuel rail bolts and spacers. Remove fuel rail with fuel injectors attached. Remove lower intake manifold bolts, manifold and gasket.
