Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Removal

  1. Remove engine from vehicle. See ENGINE R & I . Remove intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD .
  2. Remove valve lifters. See VALVE LIFTER R & I . Remove timing chain. See TIMING CHAIN .
  3. Check camshaft end play. If camshaft end play is not within specification, replace thrust plate. See CAMSHAFT  table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS at end of article.
  4. Remove camshaft thrust plate retaining bolt. Remove camshaft. If replacing camshaft bearings, remove rear camshaft bore plug. Using Camshaft Bearing Set (T65L-6250-A), remove camshaft bearings.
