Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Installation

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure oil holes in camshaft bearings and cylinder block are aligned. Front camshaft bearing must be installed .020-.035" (.51-.89 mm) below front face of cylinder block.
  2. Apply sealant to rear camshaft bore plug before installing. Plug must be installed even with cylinder block surface.
  3. Lubricate camshaft lobes, journals and both sides of thrust plate with SAE 50W engine oil before installing.
  4. Ensure camshaft end play is within specification. See CAMSHAFT  table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS at end of article. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
