Clutch Packs R & I: Installation

  1. Lubricate friction plates with Friction Modifier (C8AZ-19B546-A or EST-M2C118-A) before reassembly. Install left side gear, clutch pack and new shim into cavity of differential housing. Repeat on right side.
  2. Place pinion gears and thrust washers 180 degrees apart on side gears. Install pinion gear rotator with 12" extension. Rotate tool until pinion gears are aligned with pinion shaft hole. Remove tool from differential housing.
  3. Using soft-faced hammer, drive "S" shaped preload spring into position. Ensure spring is undamaged. Install axle shafts and "C" locks. Push axle shaft as far outboard as possible. Install pinion shaft and lock bolt. Apply Threadlock and Sealer (E0AZ-19554-B) to lock bolt.
  4. Install rear drums and wheels. See TESTING (ON VEHICLE)  in this article to ensure unit is set up correctly. Using Silicone Sealant (D6AZ-19562-B), install rear cover assembly and tighten bolts to specification. Fill axle assembly with lubricant to bottom of filler hole and install oil filler plug.
