No Beep When Buttons Are Pushed Or When Speed Alarm Is Flashing

NOTE: Tone generator will not beep if another sound is being produced. "SPEED ALARM" button does not beep or set alarm unless vehicle is moving at least 20 MPH (20 KM/H). The "TRIP RESET" button does not beep or reset trip odometer unless trip odometer is displayed. The "ECON RESET" button does not beep or reset fuel economy unless average fuel economy is displayed.
  1. Place ignition switch in "RUN" position. Press "MPH/KMH", "ODO SEL", "TRIP RESET", "SPEED ALARM", "FUEL ECON", "DTE" and "ECON RESET" buttons (one at a time) and listen for beep.
  2. If all buttons beep, system is okay. If some buttons beep, tone generator is okay. Go to step 5). If no beep is heard, check fasten seat belt reminder chime or key left in ignition chime. If okay, go to next step, If not, replace tone generator.
  3. Remove instrument cluster. Connect negative battery cable. Place ignition switch in "RUN" position and wait for fasten seat belt reminder chime. Connect a jumper wire between pin "5C" and ground. See Fig. 8. Listen for tone.
  4. Connect a jumper wire between pin "13A" and ground. Listen for tone. If tones are heard, replace speedometer module. If no tones are heard, repair circuit wiring for opens. Also check for correct tone generator module part number or operation.
  5. Identify which buttons did not beep in step 1). If "FUEL ECON", "DTE", or "ECON RESET" buttons did not beep, go to step 7). If "MPH/KMH", "ODO SEL", "TRIP RESET", or "SPEED ALARM" buttons did not beep, go to next step.
  6. Remove instrument cluster. Connect negative battery cable. Place ignition switch in "RUN" position and wait for fasten seat belt reminder chime. Connect a jumper wire between pin "5C" and ground. Listen for tone. If tone is heard, replace speedometer module. If not heard, check wiring between pin "5C" and tone generator.
  7. Remove instrument cluster. Connect negative battery cable. Place ignition switch in "RUN" position and wait for fasten seat belt reminder chime. Connect a jumper wire between pin "13A" and ground. Listen for tone. If tone is heard, replace speedometer module. If not heard, check wiring between pin "13A" and tone generator.
