Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, clear all DTCs.
- Apply the Brake Pedal several times.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Test complete. The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE RIGHT STOP LAMP BULB FOR AN OPEN, POOR CONNECTION OR AN INCORRECT PART NUMBER
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove the Right Stop Lamp Bulb from the Right Tail Lamp Assembly.
- Inspect the Right Stop Lamp Bulb for an open, poor connection or an incorrect part number.
Are there any problems found with the Right Stop Lamp Bulb?
Yes
- Replace the Right Stop Lamp Bulb in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to LAMP, TAIL STOP TURN, REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Install the Right Stop Lamp Bulb and Go To 3
- CHECK THE (Z941) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Disconnect the Right Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (Z941) Ground circuit between ground and the Right Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector.
Is the resistance above 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the open or high resistance in the (Z941) Ground circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- CHECK THE BCM FOR CORRECT OPERATION
- Connect a 12-volt test light between the (L54) Right Stop Lamp Driver circuit and the (Z941) Ground circuit at the Right Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Apply the Brake Pedal.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Check the Right Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector(s) for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension. If no problems are found, replace the Right Tail Lamp Assembly in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to LAMP, TAIL STOP TURN, REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE (L54) RIGHT STOP LAMP DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the BCM C3 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (L54) Right Stop Lamp Driver circuit between the Right Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector and the BCM C3 harness connector.
Is the resistance above 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the open or high resistance in the (L54) Right Stop Lamp Driver circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Check the BCM harness connector(s) for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension. If no problems are found, replace the Body Control Module (BCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, BODY CONTROL (BCM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
