Panel, Closure, Radiator: Removal

WARNING:

On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, disconnecting the 12-volt battery negative cable alone will not power down the 12-volt system. You must perform the 12-volt Power Down procedure before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

  1. Power down the 12 volt system. Refer to 12-VOLT POWER DOWN .
  2. Disconnect the negative 12-volt battery cable.
  3. Remove the front fascia (1). Refer to FASCIA, FRONT, REMOVAL .

  4. Remove the right and left headlamp units (2). Refer to UNIT, HEADLAMP, REMOVAL .

  5. Disconnect the cooling fan electrical connector (3).

  6. Drain the power electronics cooling system. Refer to POWER ELECTRONICS COOLING SYSTEM, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  7. Drain the battery coolant radiator. Refer to HIGH-VOLTAGE BATTERY COOLING AND HEATING SYSTEM, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  8. Disconnect the lower coolant hose (2) from the battery coolant radiator.
  9. Disconnect the upper coolant hose (1) from the battery coolant radiator.
  10. Disconnect the two power electronics radiator hoses (3).

  11. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to REFRIGERANT SYSTEM RECOVERY .
  12. Remove the bolt (4) and disconnect the A/C liquid line (1) and the A/C compressor discharge line (2) from the A/C condenser tapping block (3).
  13. Separate the A/C liquid line from the A/C compressor discharge line. Remove and discard the dual plane seals.
  14. Install plugs in, or tape over, the opened refrigerant line fittings and condenser ports.

  15. Press down the latch release (3) and remove the hood latch cable (2) from the latch.

  16. Disconnect the wire harness connector (4) from the right and left front impact sensors (1). Refer to SENSOR, IMPACT, REMOVAL . It is not necessary to unbolt the front impact sensors.

  17. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) from the horn (2).
  18. Disengage the wire harness from the bumper reinforcement.

  19. Disconnect the pedestrian alert speaker electrical connector (1).

  20. Remove the four upper bolts (1), eight center bolts and washers (2), eight lower bolts and washers (3).
  21. Remove the front end module (4) from the vehicle.
