Duct, Instrument Panel: Removal

WARNING:

Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

NOTE:

Take the proper precautions to protect the instrument panel cover from cosmetic damage during this service procedure.

  1. Disconnect and isolate the 12-Volt negative battery cable.
  2. Power down the high-voltage system. Refer to 12-VOLT POWER DOWN .
  3. Remove the instrument panel cover and place it on a workbench. Refer to COVER, INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVAL .

  4. Remove the two rivets (1 and 3) that secure the driver side instrument panel duct (5) to the instrument panel cover (4).
    NOTE:

    If the foam seal on the instrument panel duct is deformed or damaged, the seal must be replaced.

  5. Disconnect the driver side instrument panel duct from the center duct (2) and remove the instrument panel duct.

  6. Remove the rivet (3) that secures the passenger side instrument panel duct (2) to the instrument panel cover (4).
    NOTE:

    If the foam seal on the instrument panel duct is deformed or damaged, the seal must be replaced.

  7. Disconnect the passenger side instrument panel duct from the center duct (1) and remove the instrument panel duct.

  8. Remove the two rivets (2 and 4) that secure the center duct (3) to the front of the instrument panel cover (3).

  9. Remove the two rivets (2) that secure the center duct (4) to the rear of the radio bracket (1).
  10. Remove the radio bracket. Refer to RADIO, REMOVAL .
    NOTE:

    If a foam seal on the instrument panel center duct is deformed or damaged, the seal must be replaced.

  11. Remove the center duct from the instrument panel cover (3).
