DECKLID/Hatch/Liftgate/Tailgate/Swing Gate: Liftgate: Removal

Open the liftgate.
Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
Remove the liftgate upper lower (1) trim panels. Refer to PANEL, TRIM, LIFTGATE, REMOVAL .
Remove the liftgate spoiler. Refer to SPOILER, REMOVAL .

Disconnect the liftgate opening handle switch wiring connector (2).
Disconnect the wiring connector (3) from the latch (1).
Remove the light bulb sockets from the license plate lamps.

Disconnect the defroster wiring connectors (3) from the liftgate glass.
Disconnect the wiring connectors from the wiper motor (2).
Release the liftgate wiring harness routing clips (1).

Support the liftgate, with the use of a suitable lifting device.
Disconnect the liftgate support cylinders (2) from the liftgate side (1). Refer to PROP, GAS, REMOVAL .

Release the liftgate wiring harness grommets (3) and spoiler grommet (2).
Attach guide wires to the ends of the wire harnesses and route the harnesses out of the liftgate.
NOTE:
The guide wires will aid in the installation of the liftgate wiring harnesses.

NOTE:
To route the wiring harness through it maybe necessary to remove the nut screw (1), removal of the nut screw is destructive and will require a replacement.
Using a china maker/grease pen or equivalent, make reference marks where the hinge is mounted to the liftgate.
Remove the fasteners (4) securing the hinge to the liftgate.
With the help of an assistant, remove the liftgate from the vehicle.
