Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes

NOTE: Manufacturer recommends using Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB) scan tool with appropriate cartridge for system diagnosis. Other after-market scan tools may be used for system diagnosis. Following procedure is for DRB scan tool usage. Use manufacturer's instruction for operating scan tool.
  1. Ensure ignition is off. Connect DRB to data link connector located under driver's side of instrument panel. Perform TEST 1A  , ENTERING 41TE/AE DIAGNOSTIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TESTS.
  2. A CCD bus test is performed. If an error message appears on scan tool, follow manufacturer's instructions. Retrieve DTC's using scan tool manufacturer's instructions. Note DTC display and reset counter display.
  3. Reset counter indicates number of engine starts since trouble code was set. This helps determine if a hard or intermittent DTC exists.
  4. If reset counter shows less than 3 engine starts, it indicates a hard code. If reset counter shows 3 or more engine starts, an intermittent code exists.
  5. Using scan tool, display all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's). To identify DTC, See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  . When some DTC's are set, transaxle will enter limp-in mode until failure is repaired. During limp-in mode, Park, Neutral, Reverse and 2nd gear functions, but transaxle cannot upshift or downshift. Vehicle can be operated, but transaxle performance will be reduced.
