Test 52A - Manual Shift Overheat (AUTOSTICK Vehicles Only - DTC 71)
NOTE:
Perform TEST 2A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION

. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- DTC 71 can be caused by engine overheating. Check for the following conditions:
- Low coolant level.
- Restricted engine cooling system.
- Inoperative radiator cooling fan.
- Excessive engine load.
- Using scan tool, erase DTC's. On a cold vehicle, compare ambient temperature with transmission temperature using scan tool. Start vehicle and run until normal operating temperature is reached. Monitor engine and transmission temperature.
- DTC 71 is set when engine temperature exceeds 255°F (124°C) and transmission temperature exceeds 275°F (135°C). Information is not supplied by manufacturer to diagnose cause if DTC 71 is reset.
Transmission overheat can also set DTC 71. Check for the following conditions;
- Restricted transmission cooling.
- Extremely high or low fluid level.
- Extended vehicle operation in incorrect gear.
