Cylinder Head: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 1997 Dodge Avenger, 1997 Chrysler Sebring, 1996 Dodge Avenger, 1996 Chrysler Sebring, and 1995 Dodge Avenger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

NOTE: Ensure cylinder head bolt washers are installed with beveled side up and square cut side down. See Fig 3.

Clean cylinder head and block mating surfaces. Install NEW cylinder head gasket. Check identification mark to ensure proper gasket. See Fig 4. When installing gasket, ensure identification mark is facing up. Tighten cylinder head bolts to specification in correct sequence. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . See Fig 6.
When installing upper and lower radiator hose, fit hose over pipe only as far as projection. See Figure. To fill and bleed cooling system, see COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING .
Ensure No. 1 cylinder is at TDC of compression stroke. Align mating mark of distributor housing with that of coupling. See Fig 5 and Figure . Lubricate and install NEW distributor seal and distributor. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
