- Check valve stem oil clearance by measuring valve guide inner diameter and valve stem outer diameter. See CYLINDER HEAD table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
- To replace valve guides, ensure snap ring is removed from exhaust valve guide. Press out valve guide toward cylinder block. Bore valve guide hole in cylinder head to oversize valve guide diameter. Valve guides are available in 0.05 oversize, which is .4350-.4358" (11.05-11.07 mm), 0.25 oversize, which is .4429-.4437" (11.25-11.27 mm) or 0.50 oversize, which is .4528-.4535" (11.50-11.52 mm).
- Press-fit valve guide from top of cylinder head until valve guide protrudes 0.551" (14 mm) from cylinder head top surface. See Figure. Intake side valve guides are 1.79" (45.5 mm) long and exhaust side valve guides are 1.99" (50.5 mm) long. Ensure to install correct length valve guide in to proper side. Install valves into newly installed valve guides and ensure valves do not bind. Check for proper valve stem oil clearance.
