Fuel Gauge Inoperative Test
- Ensure ignition switch is in RUN position. Disconnect fuel sending unit connector at fuel tank. If needle moves to the EMPTY mark, gauge is okay. Go to next step. If needle does not move to the EMPTY mark, check circuit between sending unit and instrument cluster connector "A" for a short to ground. Repair as required. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If circuit checks out good, replace fuel gauge.
- Using jumper wire, momentarily ground fuel sending unit connector Dark Blue wire terminal. If needle moves to the FULL mark, replace sending unit. If needle does not move to the FULL mark, check for an open circuit between sending unit and instrument cluster connector "A". Repair as required. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Inspect instrument cluster printed circuit for cracks or poor contacts. If no problem is found, replace fuel gauge. If cracks or poor contact points are found, replace printed circuit.
