The Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) heating and cooling requirements are managed with a combination of two cooling system loops and the vehicles HVAC refrigerant system. The high temperature system is used to heat the passenger compartment. The low temp/battery cooling system is used for cooling of the power electronics, heating and cooling of the high voltage battery. The chiller valve in the HVAC system service is part of the battery coolant loop used to cool the high voltage battery.
- The High Temperature Engine Coolant Loop consists of a Coolant Heater connected to the high voltage system, and an Electric Coolant Pump in addition. The high temperature cooling loop can provide heat to the passenger compartment when necessary.
- The Low Temperature Coolant Loop removes heat generated by the electric drive motor and controls.
- The Battery Coolant Loop obtains heat from the High Voltage Coolant Heater or disperses heat through a chiller valve in the HVAC refrigerant system to heat or cool the HV battery.
