Clutch D Disassembly And Adjustments

NOTE:
After the clutch D is cleaned and assembled the end play must be measured to verify that the correct clutch D select reaction plate has been installed.
- Install the clutch D snap-ring in the groove in the transmission housing.
- Using a suitable caliper, measure the distance from the bottom of the clutch D snap-ring to the clutch D shoulder in the transmission housing. Record this number.
1 - Gauge, Force 10429 2 - Pressing Tool 8901A 3 - Clutch D Piston/ Retainer Assembly 4 - Belleville Spring 5 - Clutch Elements - Place the clutch D piston/ retainer assembly, belleville spring, and clutch D elements on a suitable arbor press.
- Using the tools below (with pressure scale and legs removed), compress the clutch D assembly to 3.2 kg/cm2
(45 psi).

1 - Clutch D Piston Retainer Snap-Ring Step 2 - Caliper - Using a suitable caliper, measure the thickness from the snap-ring step in the clutch D piston retainer to the underside of the clutch D reaction plate. Record this number.
- Subtract the recorded value of step 5 from the recorded value of step 2. The difference is the amount of end play in the clutch D.
1 - Friction Disc 2 - Clutch D Select Reaction Plate 3 - Steel Plate 4 - Belleville Spring 5 - Clutch D Snap Ring - If the remainder from step 6 does not match the specifications, install an appropriate thinner or thicker clutch D select reaction plate.

DISASSEMBLY
