Clutch C Disassembly And Adjustments

After the clutch C is cleaned and assembled the end play must be measured to verify that the correct select snap ring has been installed.

  1. Position the transmission housing on a suitable arbor press.

    2 - Gauge, Force 10429
    3 - Pressing Tool 8901A
    4 - Clutch C
  2. Using the tools below (with pressure scale removed), compress the clutch C with 3.2 kg/cm2 (45 psi).

    (Special tool #10429, Gauge, Force), (Special tool #8901A, Pressing Tool), and (Special tool #10428, Adapter, Pressing Tool)

    1 - Feeler Gauge
    2 - Gap Between Clutch C Reaction Plate and Clutch C Select Snap-Ring
    3 - Transmission Case
  3. Using a suitable feeler gauge, measure the gap between the clutch C reaction plate and the clutch C select snap-ring.

    4 - Steel Plate
    NOTE:

    Diesel and V-6 gas engine clutch pack shown, 4 cylinder gas engines will have one less friction disc and steel plate.

  4. If measurement does not match the specifications, replace the clutch C select snap ring with the appropriate thickness to obtain the correct clearance.

DISASSEMBLY 

Clutch C is directly assembled in the rear case of the transmission. For Disassembly 948TE - DISASSEMBLY .
