Theory Of Operation

The purpose of the diagnostic is to detect an incorrect vehicle configuration stored in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This diagnostic compares the vehicle configuration codes stored in the PCM to the vehicle configuration codes received via Controller Area Network (CAN) from the Body Control Module (BCM).
