Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR OTHER TRANSMISSION DTCS
- With the scan tool, check for other Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs.
Are any other TCM DTCs set?
Yes
- Perform the applicable TCM DTC procedure(s). Refer to 948TE/9HP48 - DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
No
- Go To 2
- With the scan tool, check for other Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs.
- CHECK FOR ENGINE AND CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) DTCS
- With the scan tool, check for Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and CAN DTCs.
Are any PCM or CAN DTCs set?
Yes
- Perform the applicable PCM or CAN DTC procedure(s). Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .
No
- Go To 3
- With the scan tool, check for Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and CAN DTCs.
- CHECK FOR ENGINE MECHANICAL PROBLEMS
- Determine if any Engine mechanical problems are present.
Are any Engine mechanical problems present?
Yes
- Repair Engine mechanical problems in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST - 948TE 9HP48 .
No
- Go To 4
- Determine if any Engine mechanical problems are present.
- CHECK FOR TRANSMISSION MECHANICAL PROBLEMS
- Check for the following conditions:
- Low Transmission fluid level.
Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Transmission fluid leaks.
- Plugged Transmission oil filter.
- Excessive debris in Transmission oil pan.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair the Transmission in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST - 948TE 9HP48 .
No
- Go To 5
- Low Transmission fluid level.
- Check for the following conditions:
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
The Engine and Transmission must not have any mechanical problems and be operating normally before proceeding with this test.
- With the scan tool, read all DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
NOTE:If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to align the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU. Follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under Body Control Module (BCM) Miscellaneous Functions menu.
- Using the schematics as a guide, check the TCM connector and all related in-line connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or pushed out terminals. Pay particular attention to the power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the TCM and perform programming and PROXI Configuration Alignment procedures. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST - 948TE 9HP48 .
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
