Hub And Bearing: Installation
NOTE:
When installing the wheel bearing in the knuckle it is important to place the side of bearing with the brown wheel speed sensor magnetic encoder ring (1) facing inboard, near the wheel speed sensor bore (2). Otherwise, the wheel speed sensor will not operate correctly.
- Place the knuckle (4) into arbor press, making sure that it is level on the press blocks.
- Place the NEW wheel bearing (3) into the bore of the knuckle so that the magnetic encoder ring is to the inboard side of the steering knuckle. Be sure the wheel bearing is placed squarely into the bore.
- Using a suitable tool, press the wheel bearing into the knuckle until the bearing is bottomed in the bore of the knuckle.
- Install a NEW
snap ring in the knuckle. Make sure the snap ring is fully seated.
- Place the knuckle (4) in an arbor press and support the bearing from underneath.
- Place the hub (2) in the wheel bearing making sure it is square with the bearing inner race.
- Press the hub (2) into the knuckle (4) until it is bottomed in the bore of the knuckle.
- Remove the knuckle and tools from the arbor press.
- Position the dust shield (2) to the steering knuckle and install the three brake shield mounting bolts (1), then tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the steering knuckle. Refer to KNUCKLE, STEERING, INSTALLATION .
