Evaporator, A/C: Removal
Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

The HVAC housing does not need to be removed from the instrument panel for service of the A/C evaporator. The instrument panel has been removed for clarity.
- Remove the heater core. Refer to CORE, HEATER, REMOVAL .
- Remove the bolt by the blower motor that secures the HVAC housing to the instrument panel reinforcement.
- Remove the bolt (1) securing the bracket (2) to the instrument panel reinforcement, then remove the nut (3) securing the bracket to the HVAC housing.
- Remove the upper fasteners (1) securing the HVAC housing to the distribution housing (2).
- Remove the lower fasteners (1) securing the HVAC housing to the distribution housing (2).
- Remove the fasteners (1) and metal clip (2) securing the lower section of the HVAC housing from the upper section (3) of the HVAC housing.
- Disengage the clips (1) and separate the lower section (2) of the HVAC housing from the upper section (3) of the HVAC housing.
- Carefully lift the A/C evaporator (1) out of the lower half of the HVAC housing (2).
