Core, Heater: Removal

WARNING:

Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

NOTE:

The HVAC housing does not need to be removed from the instrument panel for service of the heater core. The instrument panel has been removed for clarity.

  1. Remove the instrument panel. Refer to PANEL, INSTRUMENT, REMOVAL .

  2. Disengage the floor duct (2) from the heater core cover (1).
  3. Remove the screw (3) that secures the heater core cover to the left side of the HVAC housing (3).
  4. Disengage the retaining tabs that secures the cover to the HVAC housing and remove the cover.

  5. Remove the screw (2) that secures the heater tube clamp (1) to the HVAC housing.

  6. Pull the heater core (2) out of the left side of the HVAC housing (1).
    NOTE:

    If the foam seal around the heater core is deformed or damaged, it must be replaced.
