Panel, Instrument: Removal
WARNING:
Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE:
Take the proper precautions to protect the front face of the instrument panel from cosmetic damage during this service procedure.
- Position the front wheels of vehicle (and steering wheel) in the STRAIGHT-AHEAD position. This action will help keep the clock spring properly centered for reinstallation.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable (3). Refer to CABLES, BATTERY, REMOVAL .
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING .
- Recover the refrigerant system. Refer to REFRIGERANT SYSTEM RECOVERY

- Disconnect the hose clamps (4) and remove the heater hoses (3) from the heater core.
- Remove the fastener (1). Disconnect and position aside the evaporator lines (2) at the cowl panel.
- Remove the fasteners (1 and 2). Remove the left kick panel (3).
- Remove the steering column opening cover. Refer to COVER, STEERING COLUMN OPENING, REMOVAL .
- Remove the steering column. Refer to COLUMN, REMOVAL

- Remove the fasteners (1) and remove the lower trim (2).
- Remove the instrument panel cupholder. Refer to CUPHOLDER, INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVAL .
- Remove the fasteners (1) and release the cup holder trim support bracket (2).
- Disconnect the wire harness connectors and remove the support bracket (2) from the vehicle.
- Remove the lower carrier support bolts (1).
- Separate the HVAC drain tube from the floor.
- Remove the passenger side foot rest retainers and foot rest.
- Disconnect the wire harness connectors that are found under the foot rest.
- Remove the fastener (1) and position the ground cable aside.
- Remove the upper and lower glove box assemblies. Refer to GLOVE BOX, INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVAL .
- Disconnect the antenna leads and wire harness connectors (1).
- Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to MODULE, INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC), REMOVAL .
- Remove the display screen module. Refer to MODULE, DISPLAY SCREEN (DSM), REMOVAL
.
- Pull the shifter boot (1) down.
- Gently pull the pry outwards on the shifter boot trim ring tabs (2) and slide the ring away from the shifter.
- Remove the shift knob screw (1) and the knob from the shifter.
- Using a trim stick, separate shifter bezel (2) from instrument panel.
- Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) and remove the shifter bezel (2) and boot.
- Remove the shifter. Refer to SHIFTER, TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL

- Remove the fastener (1) and separate the hood release handle from the I/P.
- Disconnect the cable from the lever (1) and separate the cable housing (2) remove the handle.
- Remove the bolts (1) and lower the Body Control Module (BCM) (2).
- Disconnect the wire harness connectors (2) from the backside of the BCM (2).
- Remove the fastener and remove the ground (1) from both A-pillars.
- Remove the fastener (2) and separate the bracket (1).
- Separate the harness retainers in the steering column opening and position the harness through the I/P.
- Remove the defroster grille. Refer to GRILLE, DEFROSTER, REMOVAL .
- Remove the fenceline bolts (1).
- Remove the side support bolts (2) and with the aid of a helper, remove the instrument panel assembly (1).
