Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
This DTC must be active for the results of this test to be valid.
- Perform any Service Bulletins that may apply.
- Turn the ignition on.
- For future reference, with the scan tool, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
- Press the brake pedal firmly and hold.
- Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Parking Brakes.
- Pull the EPB Switch up to set the Electric Parking Brakes.
- Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Parking Brakes.
- Release the brake pedal.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- The conditions that caused this code to set are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK HARNESS CONNECTORS FOR IMPROPER INSTALLATION, DAMAGE OR ELECTRICAL FAILURE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Inspect the EPB Left Rear Actuator for proper mounting.
- Visually inspect the EPB Left Rear Actuator harness connector for Improper installation, damage or electrical failure.
- Visually inspect the EPB Switch harness connector for Improper installation, damage or electrical failure.
- Visually inspect the ABS Module harness connector for Improper installation, damage or electrical failure.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- (F741) IGNITION RUN/START OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN
- Disconnect the EPB Switch harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.NOTE:
The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
- With a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the Ignition RUN/START Output circuit at the EPB Switch harness connector.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the Ignition RUN/START Output circuit for an open.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
- (Z912) GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
- Turn the ignition off.
- With a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (Z912) Ground circuit at the EPB Switch harness connector.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the Ground circuit for an open.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
- REPLACE THE RIGHT REAR ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) ACTUATOR AND TEST FOR DTCS
- Replace the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) Actuator in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to ACTUATOR, ELECTRIC PARK BRAKE, REMOVAL .
- Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs.
- Cycle the ignition from off to on.
- Press the brake pedal firmly and hold.
- Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Parking Brakes.
- Pull the EPB Switch up to set the Electric Parking Brakes.
- Release the brake pedal.
- Press the brake pedal firmly and hold.
- Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Parking Brakes.
- Release the brake pedal.
- Cycle the ignition from off to on.
- With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs.
Does the DTC remain active?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Test complete.
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the ABS Module harness connector.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Connect the ABS Module harness connector. Be certain that the harness connector is fully seated and the connector lock is fully engaged.
- Connect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Connect the related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.WARNING:
To avoid personal injury or death, check brake capability is available before road testing.
- Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read ABS Module DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Module in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS), REMOVAL .
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
