Pedal(S), Brake And/Or Accelerator: Installation

  1. Carefully install the brake pedal and bracket assembly in the vehicle lining up the bracket with the power brake booster mounting studs and the studs on the dash panel.
  2. Install the four power brake booster mounting nuts (1).
  3. Tighten the power brake booster mounting nuts in the following sequence: Top inboard, bottom outboard, top outboard, bottom inboard to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. Install the pedal bracket mounting nuts and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Secure the wire harness routing clip (3).

  6. Install a NEW  power brake booster push rod cup in the power brake booster push rod retainer (2).
  7. Install the NEW  power brake booster push rod retainer (2) to the brake pedal, make sure that the clips (1) are engaged.
  8. Align the brake booster pushrod to the brake booster pushrod retainer and apply pressure to the brake pedal until the pushrod locks into the brake booster pushrod retainer. Gently pull up on the brake pedal to verify engagement.
  9. Install the stop lamp switch. Refer to SWITCH, STOP LAMP, INSTALLATION .
  10. Install the brake pedal position sensor. Refer to SENSOR, BRAKE PEDAL, INSTALLATION .
  11. Install the accelerator pedal. Refer to PEDAL, ACCELERATOR, INSTALLATION .

  12. Install the kick panel (1) and the fasteners (2, 3).
  13. Install the lower steering column shroud. Refer to SHROUD, STEERING COLUMN, UPPER, INSTALLATION .
  14. Install the steering column opening cover. Refer to COVER, STEERING COLUMN OPENING, INSTALLATION .
  15. Check the stop lamps to verify they are operating properly and not staying on when the pedal is in the released position.
  16. Road test the vehicle to ensure proper operation of the brakes.
