Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    NOTE:

    Make sure the battery is fully charged.

    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read RF Hub DTCs and record on the repair order.
    3. With the scan tool, select: "RFH" and "System Tests".
    4. Perform the Door Handle Verification Test. This will activate the Module to retest for DTCs.
    5. With the scan tool, read RF Hub DTCs and wait one (1) minute.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK THE (P125) LEFT FRONT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT 
    1. With the scan tool, select "RFH", "Data" and scroll to "LEFT FRONT Door Handle Power".
    2. Observe the Value field.

      What does the value field display?

      OFF 

      • Go To  3

      ON 

      • Go To  8
  3. CHECK THE (P125) LEFT FRONT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT 
    1. With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
    2. With the scan tool, select "RFH", "Data" and scroll to "LEFT FRONT Door Handle Power".
    3. Double click on the Value field to start the graph.
    4. Observe the graph for a pulsating line.

      Is the graph pulsating high and low on the screen?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Go To  7
  4. CHECK THE (P125) LEFT FRONT EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE (PASSIVE ENTRY) 
    1. Remove the LEFT FRONT Exterior Door Handle and disconnect the switch harness connector.
    2. With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
    3. With the scan tool, select "RFH", "Data" and scroll to "LEFT FRONT Door Handle Power".
    4. Double click on the Value field to start the graph.
    5. Observe the graph for a pulsating line.

      Is the graph pulsating between high and low on the screen?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Replace the LEFT FRONT Exterior Door Handle in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to HANDLE, INTERIOR, REMOVAL .
      • With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK THE (P125) LEFT FRONT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module C2 harness connector.
    3. Check for continuity between ground and the (P125) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit at the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module C2 harness connector.

      Is there continuity between ground and the (P125) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (P125) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit short to ground.
      • With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK THE (P125) LEFT FRONT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (P124) LEFT FRONT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT 
    1. Check for continuity between the (P125) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit and the (P124) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Return circuit at the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module C2 harness connector.

      Is there continuity between the (P125) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit and the (P124) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Return circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (P125) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit for a short to the (P124) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Return circuit.
      • With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  12
  7. CHECK THE (P125) LEFT FRONT PASSIVE ENTRY HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT 
    1. Continue with the scan tool still on "LEFT FRONT Door Handle Power".
    2. Observe the Value field.

      What does the value field display?

      OFF 

      • Go To  12

      ON 

  8. CHECK THE LEFT FRONT HANDLE FUNCTIONS 
    1. Stop the graph.
    2. Lower the LEFT FRONT door window.
    3. Turn the ignition off.
    4. Have the FOBIK outside and within 10 cm. to 1.5 m. (4 in. to 5 ft.) of the LEFT FRONT door handle.
      NOTE:

      In the next steps, wait two (2) seconds between each Lock and Unlock activation as there is a two second delay after each Lock action.

    5. With the scan tool, select "RFH", "Data" and scroll to "Passive Entry Function Carried Out".
    6. Press the Lock button and observe "Passive lock at LEFT FRONT door".
    7. Grab the door handle and observe "Passive entry at LEFT FRONT door".
    8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 two more times.

      Is the Module receiving the inputs on the screen as you do them?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  9
  9. CHECK THE LEFT FRONT DOOR HANDLE CIRCUITS 
    1. Remove the LEFT FRONT Exterior Door Handle Switch harness connector.
    2. Measure the voltage between the (P124) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Return and the (P125) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Sense circuits in the LEFT FRONT Exterior Door Handle Switch connector.

      Is the voltage above 11.8 volts?

      Yes 

      • Replace the LEFT FRONT External Door Handle in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to HANDLE, INTERIOR, REMOVAL .
      • With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  10
  10. CHECK THE (P124) LEFT FRONT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT FOR CONTINUITY 
    1. Check for continuity between ground and the (P124) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Return circuit at the LEFT FRONT Exterior Door Handle Switch harness connector.

      Is there continuity between ground and the (P124) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Return circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Return circuit for a short to ground.
      • With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  11
  11. CHECK THE (P125) LEFT FRONT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Measure the voltage between ground and the (P125) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit in the C2 connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (P125) LEFT FRONT Passive Handle Sense circuit for a short to voltage.
      • With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  12
  12. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all RF Hub harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all RF Hub Module harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Vehicle Scan Report, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read RF Hub DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Replace the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, RADIO FREQUENCY (RF HUB), REMOVAL .
      • If this vehicle is equipped with a Steering Column Lock Module (BUX), it must also be replaced in accordance with the Service Information. When replacing the RF-Hub and the Steering Column Lock Module, the RF-Hub MUST be programmed BEFORE the Steering Column Lock Module (ELV) is programmed.
      • Replace the Steering Column Lock Module (ELV/ESCL) in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the RADIO FREQUENCY HUB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RADIO FREQUENCY (RF HUB) VERIFICATION TEST .
