Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
Diagnose and repair any system voltage or 5-Volt Reference DTCs before continuing with this test.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE (F855) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT VOLTAGE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the SCB Valve harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage on the (F855) 5-Volt Supply circuit at the SCB Valve harness connector.
Is the voltage between 4.9 to 5.1 volts?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the (F855) 5-Volt Supply circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (K872) SCB VALVE SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit at the SCB Valve harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- CHECK THE (K872) SCB VALVE SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (K915) SCB VALVE RETURN CIRCUIT
- Check for continuity between the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit and the (K915) SCB Valve Return circuit at the SCB Valve harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit and the (K915) SCB Valve Return circuit?
Yes
- Repair the short between the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit and the (K915) SCB Valve Return circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- Check for continuity between the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit and the (K915) SCB Valve Return circuit at the SCB Valve harness connector.
- CHECK THE (K872) SCB VALVE SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (K874) SCB VALVE CONTROL (-) CIRCUIT
- Check for continuity between the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit and the (K874) SCB Valve Control (-) circuit at the SCB Valve harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit and the (K874) SCB Valve Control (-) circuit?
Yes
- Repair the short between the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit and the (K874) SCB Valve Control (-) circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- Check for continuity between the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit and the (K874) SCB Valve Control (-) circuit at the SCB Valve harness connector.
- CHECK THE (K872) SCB VALVE SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE CAUTION:
Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis.
- Connect the (special tool #10436, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic).
- Measure the resistance of the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit between the SCB Valve harness connector and the GPEC Adaptor.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 7
No
- Repair the excessive resistance in the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- SCB VALVE POSITION SENSOR
- Reconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
- Connect a jumper between the (F855) 5-Volt Supply circuit and the (K872) SCB Valve Signal 2 circuit at the SCB Valve harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.NOTE:
The P1617-SUPERCHARGER BYPASS VALVE POSITION SENSOR 2 CIRCUIT HIGH DTC should be active or pending with the jumper in place.
Does the scan tool display as described above?
Yes
- Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the SCB Valve and Powertrain Control Module connectors. If no problems are found, replace the SCB Valve Assembly. After installation is complete, using a scan tool select the RELEARN function.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 8
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the SCB Valve and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the SCB Valve and Powertrain Control Module connectors.
- Perform any Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were there any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
