Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Turn the Radio on.
    3. With the scan tool, read Amplifier (AMP) DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

      • The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals and correct pin tension. Test complete.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  2. CHECK THE (X478) CRANKSHAFT PULSE SIGNAL (+) CIRCUIT and (X479) CRANKSHAFT PULSE SIGNAL (-) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the related Amplifier harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the related PCM harness connector.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. Check for voltage present on the (X478) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (+) circuit and the (X479) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (-) circuits.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes

      • Repair the (X478) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (+) or the (X479) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (-) circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE (X478) CRANKSHAFT PULSE SIGNAL (+) CIRCUIT AND (X479) CRANKSHAFT PULSE SIGNAL (-) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. Check for continuity between ground and the (X478) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (+) circuit and the (X479) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (-).

Is there continuity between ground and the (X478) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (+) circuit and the (X479) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (-)?

      Yes

      • Repair the (X478) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (+) circuit or the (X479) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (-) circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE (X478) CRANKSHAFT PULSE SIGNAL (+) CIRCUIT AND (X479) CRANKSHAFT PULSE SIGNAL (-) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Measure the resistance of the (X478) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (+) circuit and (X479) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (-) circuit between the PCM harness connector and the Amplifier harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Replace the Amplifier in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to AMPLIFIER, REMOVAL .
      • Go To  5

      No

      • Repair the (X478) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (+) circuit or the (X479) Crankshaft Pulse Signal (-) circuit for an open circuit or high resistance.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
    1. Reconnect the PCM and Amplifier harness connectors.
    2. Turn the Radio on.
    3. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes

      • Replace the PCM in accordance with the service information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
