Shaft, Drive, Rear: Installation

NOTE:

Clean all driveshaft bolts and apply Mopar® Lock AND Seal Adhesive or equivalent to the threads before installation.

CAUTION:

Failure to follow these instructions may result in a driveline vibration.

  1. For Coupler type  , install the driveshaft on transfer case or transmission with reference marks, made during removal, are aligned. Install flange bolts and nuts and tighten to specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. For Constant Velocity (CV) Joint type  , install the driveshaft on transfer case or transmission with the reference marks, made during removal, are aligned. Install the flange bolts and tighten in a star pattern to proper specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
    CAUTION:

    Make sure the center bearing is installed in the correct orientation. Failure to do so can create a vibration while driving the vehicle and subsequent damage to the drivetrain components.

  3. Install the driveshaft to the differential with reference marks, made during removal, are aligned. Install flange bolts and tighten to specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  4. Install the center bearing (1). Tighten to proper specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Remove the cable ties holding the wood to the driveshaft and remove the wood brace.

  6. Install the heat shield (3).
  7. Install the exhaust system. Refer to 3.6L SINGLE EXHAUST or refer to 5.7L or refer to 6.4L .
  8. If equipped, install the skid plates. Refer to INSTALLATION .
