CROSSMEMBER, Cradle, Engine And Suspension: Installation

As necessary;

NOTE:

Right side shown, left side similar.

  1. Raise the cradle (1) into position guiding the engine mounts into the engine mount brackets.
  2. Align the engine cradle to the marks made during removal.
  3. Install the brackets (2) and install the four engine cradle support bolts (3).
  4. Tighten the four support bolts (3) to 175 Nm (129 ft. lbs.).

  5. Install and tighten the six cradle stiffener bracket bolts (1) to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

  6. Connect the steering gear wire harness connector (1).

  7. Connect the steering gear wire harness connectors (1).

  8. Install the driveshaft (1) with reference marks (3) aligned.
    NOTE:

    Clean driveshaft bolts and apply Mopar Lock and Seal Adhesive or equivalent to the threads before installation.

  9. Install the driveshaft bolts and tighten to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).

  10. Support the outside of the lower control arm with a suitable holding fixture, and raise to normal ride height.
  11. Tighten the shock clevis bracket to lower control arm nut/bolt (1) to 255 N.m (188 ft. lbs.).

  12. Support the outside of the lower control arm with a suitable holding fixture, and raise to position the upper ball joint (2) into the knuckle (3).
  13. With the holding fixture holding the suspension at normal ride height, install the upper ball joint nut (4) and tighten to 165 N.m (122 ft. lbs.).

  14. CAUTION:

    The steering gear must be centered prior to installing the coupler to prevent clockspring damage.

  15. Connect the steering shaft coupler (2) to the steering shaft, install a NEW  coupler pinch bolt (1) and tighten to 49 N.m (36 ft. lbs.).

  16. Lower the engine fully onto the engine mounts.

  17. Tighten the engine mount nuts (2) to 75 N.m (55 ft. lbs.).
  18. Install the brake calipers. Refer to CALIPER, DISC BRAKE, INSTALLATION .
  19. Install the front wheel speed sensors. Refer to SENSOR, WHEEL SPEED, FRONT, INSTALLATION .
  20. Install the transmission skid plate. Refer to
  21. Install the front skid plate. Refer to
  22. Install the oil control solenoid, if equipped. Refer to SOLENOID, VARIABLE VALVE TIMING (VVTS), EXHAUST, INSTALLATION .
  23. Install the throttle body. Refer to THROTTLE BODY, INSTALLATION or refer to THROTTLE BODY, INSTALLATION or refer to THROTTLE BODY, INSTALLATION .
  24. Perform wheel alignment, paying special attention to thrust angle. If engine cradle crossmember needs to be shifted to align thrust angle. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
