CROSSMEMBER, Cradle, Engine And Suspension: Installation
As necessary;
- Install the frame dampener bolts.
- Install the lower control arms. Refer to ARM, LOWER CONTROL, INSTALLATION .
- Install the front drive axle. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Install the steering gear. Refer to GEAR, INSTALLATION .
- Install the sway bar. Refer to STABILIZER BAR, FRONT, INSTALLATION .
NOTE:
Right side shown, left side similar.
- Raise the cradle (1) into position guiding the engine mounts into the engine mount brackets.
- Align the engine cradle to the marks made during removal.
- Install the brackets (2) and install the four engine cradle support bolts (3).
- Tighten the four support bolts (3) to 175 Nm (129 ft. lbs.).
- Install and tighten the six cradle stiffener bracket bolts (1) to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
- Connect the steering gear wire harness connector (1).
- Connect the steering gear wire harness connectors (1).
- Install the driveshaft (1) with reference marks (3) aligned.NOTE:
Clean driveshaft bolts and apply Mopar Lock and Seal Adhesive or equivalent to the threads before installation.
- Install the driveshaft bolts and tighten to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
- Support the outside of the lower control arm with a suitable holding fixture, and raise to normal ride height.
- Tighten the shock clevis bracket to lower control arm nut/bolt (1) to 255 N.m (188 ft. lbs.).
- Support the outside of the lower control arm with a suitable holding fixture, and raise to position the upper ball joint (2) into the knuckle (3).
- With the holding fixture holding the suspension at normal ride height, install the upper ball joint nut (4) and tighten to 165 N.m (122 ft. lbs.).
- Connect the steering shaft coupler (2) to the steering shaft, install a NEW
coupler pinch bolt (1) and tighten to 49 N.m (36 ft. lbs.).
- Lower the engine fully onto the engine mounts.
- Tighten the engine mount nuts (2) to 75 N.m (55 ft. lbs.).
- Install the brake calipers. Refer to CALIPER, DISC BRAKE, INSTALLATION .
- Install the front wheel speed sensors. Refer to SENSOR, WHEEL SPEED, FRONT, INSTALLATION .

- Install the oil control solenoid, if equipped. Refer to SOLENOID, VARIABLE VALVE TIMING (VVTS), EXHAUST, INSTALLATION .
- Install the throttle body. Refer to THROTTLE BODY, INSTALLATION or refer to THROTTLE BODY, INSTALLATION or refer to THROTTLE BODY, INSTALLATION .
- Perform wheel alignment, paying special attention to thrust angle. If engine cradle crossmember needs to be shifted to align thrust angle. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
CAUTION:
The steering gear must be centered prior to installing the coupler to prevent clockspring damage.
