Diagnosis And Testing - Latch
- Open the decklid with the key in the ignition-on position, the ajar signal/indicator should be activated.
- Using an appropriate size screwdriver to simulate the latch striker, engage it into the latch fully.
- Confirm that the ajar signal/indicator had been deactivated, in the locked position.
- Try to lift on the screwdriver to make sure the latch stays in the locked position. If the latch does not stay in the locked position, replace the latch. Refer to LATCH, REMOVAL .
- Verify that the latch can be released by using the key fob, then the other switches in the vehicle. If the latch releases by either the key fob or the other switches, the latch is working correctly. If the latch releases with one method but not another, repair the issue with the input component that is not able to open the decklid.
- Once the latch operation has been validated with the decklid open, verify the decklid operation as follows.
- After the latch has been released, verify that the decklid can be opened easily with no binding.
- If binding is observed inspect the hinges and replace if necessary. Refer to HINGE, SPRING, REMOVAL .
- Verify that the decklid does not hit another point of contact, before engaging the latch. If necessary align the decklid to the body properly. Refer to GAP AND FLUSH, SPECIFICATIONS .
- Check the striker to latch alignment and evaluate the effort necessary to engage the latch.
- Make a visual inspection of the latch and striker, looking for unusual wear. Replace the latch if necessary. Refer to LATCH, REMOVAL .
- Verify that the decklid will pop-open when the latch is released by any means, indicating good alignment and latch spring function.
- Adjust the latch if necessary.
