WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Dodge Dakota. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if DRIVER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORT is an active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If DRIVER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORT is an active DTC, go to next step. If DRIVER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORT is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access driver-side seat belt pretensioner and disconnect harness connector. See SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to driver-side seat belt pretensioner harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRBIII, read active DTCs. If DRBIII displays DRIVER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORT, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display DRIVER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORT, replace driver-side seat belt pretensioner.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ACM) connector. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool adapter to harness side of ACM connector. Remove load tool from driver-side seat belt pretensioner harness connector. Measure resistance between driver-side seat belt pretensioner line 1 circuit (Light Green/Dark Green wire) and line 2 circuit (Light Green/Yellow wire) on harness side of pretensioner connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace ACM. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short between Light Green/Dark Green and Light Green/Yellow wires.
