Test 28A: Air Bag Warning Light Circuit Open, Air Bag Warning Light Circuit Short

NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT OPEN or AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT SHORT is an active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT OPEN or AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT SHORT is an active DTC, go to next step. If AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT OPEN or AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT SHORT is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Using DRBIII, ensure instrument cluster is communicating on the Programmable Communications Interface (PCI) bus. If DRBIII shows instrument cluster is communicating on the PCI bus, go to next step. If DRBIII does not show instrument cluster is communicating on the PCI bus, diagnose malfunction in instrument cluster and/or instrument cluster bus circuit.
- On DRBIII, select PASSIVE RESTRAINTS, AIR BAG, MONITOR DISPLAY. View WARNING LIGHT MONITOR and select LIGHT STATUS. If DRBIII displays LIGHT STATUS: OK, and no other malfunctions are detected, replace Air Bag Control Module (ACM). See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If DRBIII does not display LIGHT STATUS: OK, replace instrument cluster. See ELECTROMECHANICAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (EMIC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
