Test 26A: Passenger-Side Air Bag Off Indicator Short To Ground

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG OFF INDICATOR SHORT TO GROUND is an active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG OFF INDICATOR SHORT TO GROUND is an active DTC, go to next step. If PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG OFF INDICATOR SHORT TO GROUND is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
  2. Using DRBIII, read active Air Bag Control Module (ACM) DTCs. If DRBIII displays LOSS OF IGNITION RUN-START, go to TEST 3A: LOSS OF IGNITION RUN/START . If DRBIII does not display LOSS OF IGNITION RUN-START, go to next step.
  3. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access passenger-side air bag on-off switch and disconnect harness connector. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG ON-OFF SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and harness side of passenger-side air bag on-off switch connector terminals No. 4 (Light Green/Yellow wire). See Figure. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Light Green/Yellow wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 2 minutes. Measure resistance between component side of passenger-side air bag on-off switch connector terminals No. 3 and 4. If resistance is about 14 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not about 14 ohms, replace passenger-side air bag on-off switch.
  5. Access ACM and disconnect harness connector. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between harness side of ACM connector terminal No. 12 and harness side of passenger-side air bag on-off switch connector terminal No. 3 (Light Green/Brown wire). See Figure & Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Green/Brown wire.
  6. Measure resistance between ground and passenger-side air bag on-off switch connector terminals No. 3 (Light Green/Brown wire). If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green/Brown wire. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace ACM.
