Test 25A: Passenger-Side Air Bag Off Indicator Short To Battery
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Dodge Dakota. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG OFF INDICATOR SHORT TO BATTERY is an active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG OFF INDICATOR SHORT TO BATTERY is an active DTC, go to next step. If PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG OFF INDICATOR SHORT TO BATTERY is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access passenger-side air bag on-off switch and disconnect harness connector. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG ON-OFF SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between component side of passenger-side air bag on-off switch connector terminals No. 3 and 4. See Figure. If resistance is less than 14 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 14 ohms, replace passenger-side air bag on-off switch.
- Access Air Bag Control Module (ACM) and disconnect harness connector. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and harness side of passenger-side air bag on-off switch connector terminals No. 3 (Light Green/Brown wire). If voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, replace ACM.
- Remove air bag system run/start fuse No. 20. See Figure. Measure voltage between ground and harness side of passenger-side air bag on-off switch connector terminal No. 3 (Light Green/Brown wire). If voltage is present, short to battery in Light Green/Brown wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is not present, repair short between Light Green/Yellow and Light Green/Brown wires.
