Test 10A: Passenger Seat Belt PRETENSIONER Circuit Short

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Dodge Dakota. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if PASSENGER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORT is an active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If PASSENGER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORT is an active DTC, go to next step. If PASSENGER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORT is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
  2. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access passenger-side seat belt pretensioner and disconnect harness connector. See SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to passenger-side seat belt pretensioner harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRBIII, read active DTCs. If DRBIII displays PASSENGER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORT, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display PASSENGER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORT, replace passenger-side seat belt pretensioner.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ACM) connector. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool adapter to harness side of ACM connector. Remove load tool from passenger-side seat belt pretensioner harness connector. Measure resistance between passenger-side seat belt pretensioner line 1 circuit (Light Blue/Dark Green wire) and line 2 circuit (Light Blue/Yellow wire) on harness side of pretensioner connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace ACM. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short between Light Blue/Dark Green and Light Blue/Yellow wires.
