Diagnostic Procedure

FRONT WASHER MOTOR INOP - DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

TEST ACTION
1 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Front Washer Motor harness connector.
Turn the ignition on.
Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the Front Washer Motor Driver circuit.
NOTE: The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.

Activate the Front Washers.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
  1. Yes --> Replace the Front Washer Motor in accordance with the Service Information.

    Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1  .

  2. No --> Go To 2
2 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Front Washer Motor.
Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12-volts, check the Front Washer Motor Ground circuit.
NOTE: The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.

Does the test light illuminate brightly?
  1. Yes --> Go To 3
  2. No --> Repair the Front Washer Motor Ground Circuit for an open.

    Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1  .

3 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Front Wiper Switch harness connector.
Connect a jumper wire between the Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit and the Front Washer motor Control circuit in the Front Wiper Switch harness connector.
Turn the ignition on.
Does the Front Washer Motor function?
  1. Yes --> Replace the Front Wiper Switch (Multi- Function Switch) in accordance with the Service Information.

    Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1  .

  2. No --> Go To 4
4 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Front Wiper Switch.
Disconnect the Central Timer Module
Measure the resistance of the Front Washer Motor Control circuit.
Is the resistance above 5.0 ohms?
  1. Yes --> Repair the Front Washer Motor Control Circuit for an open.

    Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1  .

  2. No --> Go To 5
5 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Front Washer Motor.
Disconnect the Central Timer Module.
Measure the resistance of the Front Washer Motor Driver circuit.
Is the resistance above 5.0 ohms?
  1. Yes --> Repair the Front Washer Motor Driver Circuit for an open.

    Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1  .

  2. No --> Go To 6
6 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Front Wiper Switch.
Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit.
NOTE: The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.

Does the test light illuminate brightly?
  1. Yes --> Repair the Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit for an open. If the fuse is open make sure to check for a short to ground.

    Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1  .

  2. No --> Go To 7
7 If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair.
  1. Repair

    Replace the Central Timer Module in accordance with the Service Information.

    Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1  .
