Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Perform SIR diagnostic check. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . When check is complete, go to next step.
  2. Inspect fuse F18. See Figure. If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is not blown, go to step  4.
  3. Repair short causing fuse F18 to blow. Replace fuse. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  4. Turn ignition on. Check power supply circuit to fuse F18. If voltage is 11-14 volts, go to step  6. If voltage is not 11-14 volts, go to next step.
  5. Repair power supply circuit to fuse F18. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  6. Check AIR BAG warning light bulb. If bulb is okay, go to step  8. If bulb is not okay, go to next step.
  7. Replace AIR BAG warning light bulb. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  8. Turn ignition on. Check voltage at instrument cluster connector B12. See Figure. If voltage is 11-14 volts, go to step  10. If voltage is not 11-14 volts, go to next step.
  9. Repair open circuit between fuse F18 and instrument cluster connector B12. See Figure Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  10. Test instrument cluster printed circuit for continuity between connector terminals A1 and B12. See Figure. If continuity exists, go to step  12. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  11. Replace instrument cluster. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  12. Disable SIR system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect SDM electrical connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage at terminal No. 7 of SDM connector. See Figure If voltage is 11-14 volts, go to step  14. If voltage is not 11-14 volts, go to next step.
  13. Repair open circuit between instrument cluster and SDM terminal No. 7. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  14. Replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect all SIR components. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
