Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Inspect SDM connector to verify it is connected properly to SDM. If connection is okay, go to step  3. If connection is not okay, go to next step.
  2. Connect SDM connector. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect SDM connector. Turn ignition switch on. Check voltage at terminal No. 10 of SDM connector. If voltage is greater than 8.2 volts, go to SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) INTEGRITY CHECK . If voltage is not greater than 8.2 volts, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition on. Check voltage supply to fuse F15. If voltage is 8.2-16 volts, go to step  6. If voltage is not within 8.2-16 volts, go to next step.
  5. Repair power supply to fuse F15. System is okay.
  6. Inspect AIR BAG fuse. If fuse is okay, go to step  8. If fuse is not okay, go to next step.
  7. Replace AIR BAG fuse. System is okay.
  8. Disable SIR system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Check for open circuit between terminal No. 10 of SDM and fuse F15. See Figure. If an open circuit exists, go to next step. If circuit is not open, go to step  10.
  9. Repair open circuit between terminal No. 10 of SDM and fuse F15.
  10. Repair short to ground between AIR BAG indicator light and terminal No. 7 of SDM.
