Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 RAM 3500 HD and 2013 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooler Bypass valve (EBV) is used to redirect the EGR gases around the cooler when the engine is under certain operating conditions. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the EBV based on engine conditions. The EBV sends the valve position status back to the PCM. The PCM will light a MIL lamp after this monitor runs and fails in two consecutive drive cycles. The PCM will turn off the MIL lamp after the diagnostic passes in four consecutive drive cycles.
