  1. CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC
    NOTE:

This DTC may be the result of a recently installed DEF Pump that was not completely primed. If this is the reason for the DTC setting, and the DEF Pump successfully completes the priming procedure, the DTC will go to Stored.

    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, navigate to Systems Tests and actuate the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Doser Pump Override Test.
    3. With the scan tool, View DTCs.

Is the DTC Active or Pending?

Yes, and the DEF Pump was recently replaced

      • Go To  2

Yes, and the DEF Pump was not  recently replaced

      • Go To  3

      No

      • The DEF Reductant Doser Prime Override Test may have resolved the DTC. Test drive the vehicle for more than 15 minutes to see if P20E8 returns. If the DTC returns, begin this Test Step again. If the DTC does not return, the test is complete.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L .
  2. VERIFY THAT THE DEF PUMP IS PROPERLY PRIMED
    NOTE:

This DTC may be the result of a recently installed DEF Pump that was not completely primed. If this is the reason for the DTC setting, and the DEF Pump successfully completes the priming procedure, the DTC will go to Stored. If the DTC goes to Stored at any time during this Test Step, the test is complete.

    1. Using the scan tool, verify that DEF Tank level is at least 50%.
    2. Start the engine and test drive the vehicle for at least 15 minutes.
    3. Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
    4. Turn the Ignition on.
    5. Using the scan tool, perform the DEF Reductant Doser Prime Override Test.
    6. Start the engine and test drive for at least another 15 minutes.
    7. Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
    8. Turn the ignition on.
    9. Using the scan tool, perform the DEF Reductant Doser Prime Override Test again.

Is the DTC Active or Pending?

      Yes

      • Go To  3

      No

  3. CHECK THE DEF TANK LEVEL
    1. Using the scan tool, verify that DEF Tank level is at least 50%.

If the fluid level in the DEF Tank above the minimum requirement?

      Yes

      • Go To  4

      No

  4. CHECK THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Collect a sample of diesel exhaust fluid from the system.
    3. Visually inspect the fluid for signs of contamination or debris.
    4. To test for hydrocarbons in the DEF tank use Hydroscopic test paper (223-44-863) available through MoparEssentialTools.com. Then, ENTER EQUIPMENT CATALOG. Or call (855)-298-2687. The test strip must come in contact with the DEF fluid in the tank in order to get a valid reading for hydrocarbons present in tank.
    5. Remove the test paper from the package and inspect for color consistency. If the color is not consistent replace strip.
    6. Disconnect the DEF fill pipe from tank and try to get a sample or remove the DEF tank.
    7. Place the test paper directly into the DEF fluid in the tank. If the light blue paper turns dark blue, that is an indication that oil or hydrocarbon contamination is present.

Is the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) free of debris, hydrocarbons, or other contamination?

      Yes

      • Go To  5

      No

      • Drain the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). Replace the DEF Tank, DEF Supply Pump Assembly, DEF Injector, DEF Supply Tube, DEF Filler Tube, and DEF Filler Cap in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L .
  5. CHECK THE DEF SUPPLY SYSTEM FOR LEAKS
    1. Visually inspect the DEF Tank, DEF Supply Pump Assembly, DEF Injector, DEF Supply Tube, and DEF Filler Cap for signs of a fluid leak.

Is there any leaks in the DEF System?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK THE DEF INJECTOR FOR DEPOSITS
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Remove the DEF Injector from the exhaust bank.
      NOTE:

Leave the DEF Injector harness connected during this inspection.

    3. Visually inspect the DEF Injector for deposits, debris, or blockage at the injector orifice.

Were there deposits, debris, or blockage found?

      Yes

      • Clean the DEF Injector as necessary. Then, Go To  7

      No

      • Go To  7
  7. CHECK THE DEF INJECTOR AND SUPPLY TUBE FOR A RESTRICTION
    NOTE:

Leave the DEF Injector harness connected during this test.

    1. Place the DEF Injector in a clean container to capture the fluid sprayed.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, navigate to Systems Tests and actuate the DEF Reductant Doser Pump Override Test.
      NOTE:

This Test will run for six minutes before timing out. The amount of flow may fluctuate through out the test, therefore the test must be allowed to run completely in order for the results to be accurate. The fluid should spray out as a mist. There should be no dripping from the holes in the DEF Injector at any time during the duration of the test procedure.

    4. Measure the amount of fluid sprayed after the test times out.

Does the fluid sprayed measure between 85 ml?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  8
  8. CHECK THE DEF INJECTOR FOR A RESTRICTION
    1. Remove the DEF Supply Tube from the DEF Injector and place it in a clean container to capture the fluid sprayed.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the Scan Tool, navigate to Systems Tests and actuate the DEF Reductant Doser Pump Override Test.
      NOTE:

Running this test with the hose disconnected from the injector may shorten the duration below the normal 6 minutes.

      NOTE:

The purpose of this test is to observe for any fluid flow at all (no specified amount).

Is there any fluid present within 30 seconds?
