Section 1643 (BW44-47 Transfer Case - (Service Information) - 2500 Hd): Removal

  1. Raise vehicle.
  2. Drain the transfer case lubricant.
  3. Mark front and rear propeller shafts for alignment reference.
  4. If equipped, remove the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank Refer to TANK, DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID, REMOVAL .
  5. Support transmission with jack stand.
  6. Remove the transfer case skid plate, if equipped.
  7. Disconnect front and rear propeller shafts at transfer case.
  8. Disconnect transfer case vent hose.
  9. Disconnect the shift linkage at the transfer case lever.
  10. Disconnect the coil wire connector.
  11. Unplug the transfer case position indicator switch.
  12. Support transfer case with transmission jack.
  13. Secure transfer case to jack with jack straps or chains.
  14. Remove nuts attaching transfer case (2) to transmission (1).
  15. Pull transfer case and jack rearward to disengage transfer case.
  16. Remove transfer case from under vehicle.
