Tank, Diesel Exhaust Fluid: Removal

  1. Disconnect and isolate both of the negative battery cables.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  3. Remove the transfer case skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, TRANSFER CASE, REMOVAL .
  4. Disconnect the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) fill tube vent line (1) from fluid limit vent valve (1).
  5. Disconnect the DEF fill tube (2) from DEF tank (3).
  6. Drain the DEF tank. Refer to DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID EMISSIONS, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  7. Disconnect the DEF supply line (3) from the DEF injector (1).
  8. Position a transmission jack under DEF tank.

  9. Remove right side DEF tank mounting bolts (1).

  10. Remove left side bolts (1) and partially lower the DEF tank (2).

  11. Disconnect DEF dosing control unit wire harness connector (2).
  12. Lower the tank.

  13. If necessary, remove the bolts (1) and the DEF pump cover (2).

  14. If necessary, disconnect DEF supply line (3) from the DEF pump.
  15. If necessary, disconnect the DEF pump wire harness connector (1).
  16. Remove the DEF tank from vehicle.

  17. Remove nut (4) and the DEF tank strap (3).
  18. Remove the DEF tank (2) from mount (1).
