Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read DTCM DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE (F946) FUSED IGNITION CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Front Axle Disconnect (FAD) Module harness connector.
- Disconnect the Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM) C1 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (F946) Fused Ignition circuit at the FAD Module harness connector and the DTCM C1 harness connector.NOTE:
The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the (F946) Fused Ignition circuit for an open or high resistance. Inspect the related fuse. If the fuse is open, check the circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (G303) FRONT AXLE LOCK SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage on the (G303) Front Axle Lock Signal circuit at the DTCM harness connector.
Is any there voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (G303) Front Axle Lock Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- Measure the voltage on the (G303) Front Axle Lock Signal circuit at the DTCM harness connector.
- CHECK THE (G303) FRONT AXLE LOCK SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (G303) Front Axle Lock Signal circuit at the DTCM harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (G303) Front Axle Lock Signal circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (G303) Front Axle Lock Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE (G303) FRONT AXLE LOCK SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (G303) Front Axle Lock Signal circuit between the DTCM harness connector and the FAD Module harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Repair the (G303) Front Axle Lock Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (G303) Front Axle Lock Signal circuit between the DTCM harness connector and the FAD Module harness connector.
- CHECK THE (G304) FRONT AXLE LOCK CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (G304) Front Axle Lock Control circuit between the DTCM harness connector and the FAD Module harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 7
No
- Repair the (G304) Front Axle Lock Control circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (G304) Front Axle Lock Control circuit between the DTCM harness connector and the FAD Module harness connector.
- CHECK THE (G304) FRONT AXLE LOCK CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage on the (G304) Front Axle Lock Control circuit at the DTCM harness connector.
Is any there voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (G304) Front Axle Lock Control circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 8
- Measure the voltage on the (G304) Front Axle Lock Control circuit at the DTCM harness connector.
- CHECK THE (G304) FRONT AXLE LOCK CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (G304) Front Axle Lock Control circuit at the DTCM harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (G304) Front Axle Lock Control circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (G304) Front Axle Lock Control circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 9
- CHECK THE (Z908) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (Z908) Ground circuit between the FAD Module harness connector and ground.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 10
No
- Repair the (Z908) Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (Z908) Ground circuit between the FAD Module harness connector and ground.
- REPLACE THE DTCM
- Replace the DTCM in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, DRIVETRAIN CONTROL (DTCM), REMOVAL .
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the FAD Module in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- The new DTCM repaired the problem.
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTCM VERIFICATION TEST .
